10:58 pm	Maven I don't like you anymore Laterly, I've tried to analyse sources of problem on one of my projects. The project is not extraordinary for our company, but we have invested some resources in novel technologies this time. One of them was Maven. All have began fine, dependency management and strandard layout and lifecycles were very good ideas. Until we have started to buil up full project infrastructure. This is where the problems arise. 1. Maven is very inflexible. Personally, I pretty love standard builds. But if you have a maven build and need something unsupported by plugin developer then you are in trouble. You may spend days tring to find a way or a plugin to do you need. And spend several hours debugging maven bugs then. 2. Maven community is very rigid. I've get a couple of bugs I was need to solve immediately. All of them were reported btw. These bugs were assigned to very far releases. One of them was closed with 'won't fix: the bug does not fit into system ideology'. OK our product does not fit to your build ideology. What I am supposed to do now? We have invested weeks of time into maven build system. 3. Maven builds are unmanageable. Yes, I know. Maven is positioned as project management tool. But it is unreliable. As public releases are rare, you are enforced to use SNAPSHOTs those can have different bug level. The last time our maven build has died this Friday. It took 1.5hours to find a cause only because I had similar problems before. If this will happen just before deadline or a product presentation what will you do? I spent sometime talking with other project managers in our company. All their Maven projects ended up by writing big ant scripts to avoid problems with standard plugins . So what is a great idea about the Maven. Now all starting projects use Ivy or plain ant for build system. Hey, are you going to make Maven work at some point? (Comment on this)

12:37 am	HDD temperature Lately, I've got a complain from Windows XP on my home workstation that it can not read from the swap file. This frightened me, because the hard drive is storing my business related very valuable information. The drive is SeaGate Barracuda 7200.8 300Gb. I started a SMART monitoring utility and so a oppressive picture. The Raw Read Error attribute was 45. And the temperature was 55C. Not a critical btw. I went to a computer shop and got a cooler from no-name China company for 6$. Now, the error rate at the ~60-65 level. By references on hardware forum this value is normal for the series. So there are one conclusion and one question: 1. Always cool your speedy hot hdds. It may save your data. 2. Why vendors does not provide coolers with their drives? Or just don't write "YOU NEED TO KEEP THE DRIVE COOL" on the drive with big letters? Current Mood: cranky (Comment on this)

Вы внушаете ужас одним видом (в анфас), а другим (в профиль) – острое желание никогда не видеть вас в анфас. Каждое ваше появление сопровождает зловещая музыка и драматические спецэффекты. Это вы съели Красную Шапочку, не дали куче тинэйджеров выйти из пубертатного периода, погрузили всю землю во тьму, подставили Кролика Роджера и утопили Титаник с Ди Каприо (хотя последнее, пожалуй, единственное ваше Доброе Дело). Для вас нет ничего разумного, доброго и вечного: только глупое, злое и скоропортящееся, — отсюда и ваша враждебность к окружающим, и склонность к немотивированному насилию, и общая вредность во всём организме (но, возможно, это просто от того, что у вас нет велосипеда). Что тут ещё скажешь? Вы Зло в чистом его проявлении, а это всегда такая редкость… Пройти тест (Comment on this)
